Historic Preservation 101

At the Hartford Preservation Alliance, we consider the term “historic preservation” to include:

  • preservation of residential, commercial and public historic buildings
  • infill construction that “fits in” an historic neighborhood
  • protection of parks, bridges, monuments and cemeteries
  • adaptive reuse of buildings
  • advocacy for legislation that protects our historic assets
  • creation of, and additions to, historic districts
  • educational event and opportunities
  • individual technical assistance
  • economic development and jobs
  • internship programs that train tomorrow’s preservationists
