| MYSTERY SOLVED!! 84 Scarborough Street
The Hartford Preservation Alliance was recently contacted through its website with an inquiry which eventually solved another “Lost Hartford” image. It turns out that Maggie Redfern was researching the history of the Guastavino Company for a professor she is working with at MIT in Cambridge, MA. They are trying to identify all extant buildings that have Guastavino tile vaulting that was used for porte-cocheres and other similar entrances. Their only information was the name of the architecture firm, LaFarge & Morris which had a 1913 commission for a Hartford residence. When they tried an internet search they came upon HPA’s featured “Lost Hartford” image which included a reference to the tile company. A quick search of HPA’s burgeoning architect database revealed several possibilities and was eventually narrowed down to 84 Scarborough Street, built for Charles Goodwin. Mystery Solved!
